This does resemble square one

Well, I guess I shouldn't have bragged about getting a job at B&N, because it didn't happen. It wasn't entirely my fault, though. I arrived on time for the interview and sat down in the cafe for it. The manager who scheduled the interview was there, as was a woman who is a new team leader type person.

She was to conduct the interview and he was going to sit in and take notes. So when he asked if I minded if he took notes, I said, "I'd love it. I'm a high school teacher, so it's very unusual for anyone to take notes while I speak." This prompted him to ask if I was looking for something seasonal. I explained that I'd be leaving at the end of July to return to teaching. He asked if I'd be able to continue on part-time after that. I told him no, I was "pretty hard core teacher girl".

At that, he told me that they had a rather intensive training program which would basically end about the time I'd be quitting, so it wasn't really worth my time to interview. If I was willing to stay on during the school year, working weeknights and weekends, I'd probably be hired. But I'd have to agree to stay on and work at least a night or two per week, plus some weekend hours. The latest I'd be able to come in on a weeknight would be 5. The store closes at 11, so I'd be getting out of work at 11:30 or 12, and have to be at school at 7 in the morning. I could have lied and said I'd stay on during the school year, then quit when the time came, but that's just not me, so I said I'd think it over but it was unlikely.

I'm really disappointed about the outcome, but I don't regret telling the truth. It obviously wasn't the right job for me at this point in time.

A brand new Starbucks opened near me while I was in England, so my next step is to apply there, in addition to following up on some prior applications. Also, I'm sending my resume to a second Sylvan location, since the one close to my apartment wasn't interested in hiring me.

I continue to think and pray about it, but so far no good leads seem to be appearing. I now have less than my monthly rent in the bank, so it's pretty much do or die time. Tune in next time to see what riveting action has taken place on The Job Search Saga.

I know it's frustrating. You'll be OK.

Jane's suggestion is actually pretty good: a ton of teachers (and nonteachers as well) in my area offer tutoring during the summertime and also during the year by posting signs with phone number slits at the local library. It's a good place to get potentials, especially because you know that they are hardcore about studies and will probably be more than likely to hire a tutor if it will help. And we all know that you are beyond qualified!
