Birthdays are fun

Today I'm 29, which is supposed to be the age I pretend to be for the rest of my life. I still look about 23 and have never hidden my true age, so I don't think I'll be faking it any time soon. All the women in my family preserve well. My mom, sister, aunt and grandmother all look much younger than they are. Dad looks great, too.

I have some great stories about looking way younger than I am. I got carded for rated "R" movies until I graduated college. I've been asked for hall passes as a teacher. My students have often mistaken me for a student. But my favorite thing about looking really young is this look people get when they're trying to figure out my age.

Usually, the "look" arrives when I meet people and mention I'm married. They get the most hilarious look on thier faces - and it's almost always the same. They then spend a few agonizing moments trying to figure out how to work my age into the conversation. Sometimes I let them off the hook and just tell them my age. Other times, they will say something like, "How long have you been married?". When I tell them, they look even more shocked. LOL. It's really great. Finally, they usually say, "You must have been so young when you got married!" Inevitably in the first few conversations I have with a person, my age comes up. I wonder if it'll always be that way.

It's kind of been a birthday week. I had dinner with Mom and Bobby on Monday night and got my present from my sister that day. Then yesterday my gift from Andrew arrived - the Fossil watch I wanted. Then today I got several birthday greetings (online, telephone calls, etc.) and Andrew sent me a cute little Happy Birthday movie. YAY!

You may have noticed the lovely and brilliant Sally commented on the previous entry. This is our Kiwi friend after whom my main character in the novel is named. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten far enough to know whether Sally (the fictitous one) will get her man or not, but things are looking bleak right now. 'Nuf said about the novel. (At a guest dinner last term, I felt compelled to tell the real-life Sally a whole lot about my novel. Usually I don't do that, but since I named the character after her, I was feeling generous.)

Yesterday my last two pieces of furniture for my apartment arrived by JC Penney delivery truck. So now I have a cute little dining room table and a vanity. The table is in the dining room and is round with fold-down sides. Very cute and practical. It works great for me because I have wireless internet in my apartment. So I can sit at the table and work. I have a desk in the den which is great, too, but I can't see the rest of the apartment from there. That's great for doing Quicken or other things that require privacy. But I spend a lot of time working on the computer when I'd like to be able to be in the open areas of the apartment, looking at the kitties, and maybe even watching TV. So now I have my choice. Plus a more comfortable place to eat when I want to. Very nice.

The vanity is in the bedroom. A cute, scroll vanity table and a matching bench with a little cushion. Andrew suggested I get one because we only have one bathroom and, when he returns from England, he doesn't want me taking up the bathroom for an hour after my shower. I am totally into the whole vanity idea - very girly. And it was dirt cheap on sale. So yay!

I hope the bedroom hasn't been too feminized for when Andrew gets back. It's pretty girly. I hope he still likes it! Then again, he'll be so happy to be back it'll probably take him a week to notice!
