Two funny things that happened last week

First of all, my middle toenail fell of. I don't remember injuring my toe in any way, but one day last week it was a bit sore and the nail looked a little yellow. I thought that was odd since it was my middle toe and not particularly vulnerable, but figured I'd worn shoes that were too tight or something and had irritated it. Then a day or two later it was again sore to the touch, so I decided to try trimming my toenail in case there might be something under it causing irritation. When I went to trim it, basically 95% of my toenail separated from the bed. It was all flaky and strange - and most of it just kind of flaked off. It doesn't particularly hurt, but I thought it was odd.

Last year when I was teaching, I was rushing around in the pre-dawn one day when I accidentally kicked the corner of one of our couches. It REALLY hurt and I thought I might have broken a toe. I went to work anyway and my toe swelled up pretty good and the nail bled. Ick. It hurt for several weeks, and, although I never went to the doctor, I do suspect the bone may have had a slight fracture. Anyway, after a couple of weeks wearing sandals and such, it felt somewhat better and the nail did fall off. It eventually grew back. But that time, I was really sure WHY the nail had fallen off. This one, I have no idea about.

The other funny thing that happened was on Saturday night. Andrew and I were on our way to dinner at Moonlight Tandoori. We were stopped at a crosswalk when three young (late-teens, maybe even younger) English people stopped next to us. They were discussing how to get someplace. Eventually, the girl asked me where the bus stop was for the Oxford Tube (the bus that takes you to and from London). I gave her quick and easy directions (it was just up the road; they had passed it) about how it's just in front of the main entrance to Queens. I noticed her two male companions were laughing. I assumed it was because she was asking for directions.

After they left for the bus stop, Andrew started laughing. Apparently, they had been debating the directions and one of the guys said, "Why don't we just ask those tourists? They'll know."

So, see, the thing was that they thought I was a tourist. And then when I came out with the ole American accent they apparently thought that was pretty darn funny. So here I am walking across the bridge toward Cowley yelling, "I'm not a tourist!" in their general direction. Heh.

Tonight, I work the Radcliffe Camera from 5 till 10. It will probably be a zoo. At least I get a nice tea break somewhere in there. I will leave in just a moment and have a nice snack before work, too.

Tomorrow evening, we Buffy once again! YAY! We'll be having dinner at New College with Andrew (non-husband) and then retire to his flat for Angel and the Buffy which will air tonight in the USA. The Killer in Me. I predict advances in Buffy Mythology.

Thursday is College Communion at chapel. There will be a nice service to which we are strongly encouraged to bring a friend. Anybody want to go? It will be vey nice and NOT one of those "Oh, Erin, who's your friend? Let's rope him/her into spending all his/her free time with us." Just a nice service and a chance to enjoy the music and hospitality of Hertford Chapel. Plus, there's a free dinner afterwards!

Then Sunday, the Hugheys be in charge of selecting the MCR movie for the MCR movie night. At lunch, Rich decided for us: Moulin Rouge. We have it on DVD and everybody thought it was a good choice. So that saves us debating about the merits of Spartacus (his choice) vs. Princess Bride or The Professional.

Okay, better run for a snack before it gets too late. Cheers!

Wait, decided at lunch? When did that happen?

I mean, sure, Moulin Rouge is great and all, but I was looking forward to Spartacus.

Sigh. I love you, Spartacus.

"Stop that rhyming now, I mean it!"
"Does anybody want a peanut?"

-- I love the Princess Bride, but Moulin is a fav too. After all, "all you need is love"! I'll have to check out Spartacus though just to make things fair ^.^

Hope you have a splendid Buffy shindig and movie night!
