Business Erin vs. Writer Erin

I'm getting better. Still kind of tired and a little "off," but better, I think. I am pretty sure it's just the dreary weather getting to me. They tell me it's the time of year for these things.

But, that's no excuse for such a lapse in entries, huh? That's what I thought! So here we go.

Friday was the "Search for a Star" DJ contest for the MCR. They had a bop and those of us who signed up took a turn running the music for 15 minutes or so. It was fun. Andrew participated and so did I. Brought me back to when I was about 18 and worked for the college radio station. In fact, that is what I was doing about 10 years ago this very day. Memories! Anyway, I played a nice set of 80s techno-pop and everybody seemed to get their groove on. It was a blast, really.

Last night we ran the MCR movie night for our friend Rich, MCR arts director, since he had the big-official-MCR-committee-meeting to attend. So Miss Kitty (that's my computer), Andrew and I went to the Graduate Centre and played Monsoon Wedding on their TV. They have a widescreen TV, but no DVD player at the grad centre. Go figure! But, no fears, Miss Kitty is an experienced DVD player. The film was provided by PJ, who obtained it conspicuously cheaply in Singapore. Hmm! It was better than I expected, but didn't live up to its hype. But definitely worth a look.

I'm now reading The Hobbit. I must admit I do feel a little like a tourist attraction when I work the more public points like the Old Bod. Here I am, portering away, and reading my copy of the classic tale written by Tolkien, an Oxford acadmic, in Oxford, and parts of it clearly based on Oxford. I feel kind of like big goof, but it's a good read. I haven't read it for several years and am enjoying it more this time than the last, I think.

I'm rather upset and disappointed to say that it's been a week since I've really worked on the novel. I felt sick and tired and stressed last week. And the storm that is "next year" is looming large. We're eyeballs-deep in trying to figure out where we'll be and what we'll be doing next year. Our funding runs out in June. We are considering ALL options - and I mean all of 'em! There's so much to consider and I find myself constantly making lists. It's hard to quiet my mind when it gets this way. Lists of ideas, things to investigate, costs of various things, "to-do"s. UG! I have this very strong need to organize and plan things. In fact, I enjoy it most of the time. The problem is that when I'm in that "mode," I have a lot of trouble being creative. The practical part of my brain is scampering all over the writer part right now, but I'll try to make some novel headway today nonetheless.

The good news is that we did get our tickets to visit home in March, so, if nothing else, that is squared away and we have something to look forward to. Yay! Kitties!

I miss you, kitties!
